[What is this all about?]

As a freshman in college in 1989, I participated in one of the many rites of passage for those leaving home for the first time: I applied for my first credit card. I received the card shortly before Christmas that year, if I remember correctly. To go along with that awesome feat, I went almost immediately into debt. For whatever reason, I can even tell you what my first purchase was:

• Beet by Eleventh Dream Day
• Earth, Sun, Moon by Love & Rockets

And if I went back to Iowa City, I could probably even point out the building that the music store those CDs were purchased was in. Hell, it’s a college town, the store may just still be there. About the only place an independent store like that could still survive.

But that’s neither here nor there. My point is, the day prior to that purchase, over nineteen years ago, was the last day I was free of credit card debt. Sometimes it was only a small amount. Often it was not. But it was always there.

Until today.

Despite two attempts on my life via my son’s preschool, October was still a productive month.

Even with the downtime that some fine over-the-counter medicine brings on, I’m looking at around 70 shiny new blasts adding to my bottom line.

I ran right through a long time goal, and set a few new ones.

And I saw my most profitable month with IM come to a close. My multiple is getting awfully small!

Look out November.

Or should I say, the germs from my son‘s preschool are!

Doesn’t it suck that the side effect of the drugs you take to deal with the symptoms of a craptacular fall head cold are almost worse than the cold itself?

Looking at the number yet to go on my mini personal challenge, the state of my infected body (and the mind attached to it), and the time remaining, it looks like that goal just isn’t meant to be met.

31 blasts isn’t quite 50, but it’s in hand grenade range at least. Still, not bad for eight six days. (I spent a good chunk of a day figuring out keyword pruning, and accomplished next to nothing today.) Unless the fog lifts in a profound way tomorrow, I just don’t see getting nineteen more done.

Ah, well, if I met every stretch goal, it would just mean I’m not really stretching.

20,000+ lonely keywords met their demise today. That should give me a little breathing room in my Adwords account!

Now back to the real goal. Four days to go and 41 campaigns.

It isn’t much of a goal if it’s easy…

• I like simplicity. The last theme may have been pretty, but it certainly wasn’t simple. BareCity is.
• Internet marketing is hard. Bull. It’s easy. Getting yourself to act is hard. I’ve been acting lately, and things are beginning to flow.
• I overthink everything. Like a skipping record, every now and then I need a whack to get going again. (And if you don’t know what a record is, you damn whippersnappers can wikipedia all about ‘em! )
• Why is it that as we age, play becomes secondary to work. Every now and then, sit down with your favorite four-year-old and play farm. It’s amazing how a little play can let your mind wander into wonderfully productive regions you’ve long forgotten.
• I should write more…

No, I haven’t exactly forgotten about this site and my activities around it. But I have been a little out of focus for a period. I finished up tax season, took a bit of a mental holiday, started to get back into this little adventure, and then was thrown off track while dealing with a little personal drama that I don’t particularly care to share with the world.

So, am I back into the swing of things? With a vengeance…
